Bio.
My work is inspired by the interplay of light, movement, and depth in nature. With an academic background in Comparative Development and Environmental Studies, I have been a full-time professional artist for the last 6 years. Ever since, I have strived to capture the essence of nature and its importance towards sustainability through my paintings.
Each of my paintings reflects the light and subtle movements found in the tranquillity and beauty of the natural world. I explore the subtle nuances of depth as it dances through the scenes from my imagination. I also use my art to share the importance of nature through environmental organizations such as The Nature Conservancy of Canada and Tree Canada to expose the wonders of nature. Sometimes, my passion for painting nature allows me to contribute to science by collecting data on my hikes around the Rockies of Alberta, Canada.
The light, movement, and depth I experience in nature lead me to interpret it in visual arts as an expression that is inclusive of the dynamic movements found in the abstract, expressionist, impressionist, and surrealist movements of fine art. These art styles have heavily influenced the techniques I use in my artwork.
I can’t say which medium is my favorite because each one offers something unique. I love how watercolor paints interact with the paper—how they bleed and flow, creating beautiful, unpredictable effects. It’s unforgiving and challenging, but that's part of the appeal. Acrylic paint, on the other hand, is fast and forgiving, allowing me to work quickly and layer freely, which makes it perfect for teaching. Oil paint gives me the time to truly create through my raw imagination, with its rich, lasting colors and textures that I can sculpt on the canvas. And there’s something deeply satisfying about picking up a charcoal willow stick or an ink pen to make endless lines that weave around the paint. So, I truly enjoy painting with all mediums, depending on the mood I'm in.
