Is WEM open to an artist’s Exhibit?

So the best part of doing a fine art exhibit in the largest mall in Canada, West Edmonton Mall (WEM), was that it provoked people to stop and see art from a unique point of view! At first, the culture was that they were all in a rush to get what they needed and go! Then, as they were rushing by, they heard the serene and “out of place” sounds of birds chirping in my glass structure!

The talks mostly focused on Alberta's landscapes, the worth of original art, a local artist, and interesting views on trade policies regarding grain protection versus cheap prints. It was a great experience. I was there for three days, which showed me that changing perspectives takes time. I had hoped to sell my art and recover my investments, but it wasn’ts as successful from a financial point of view.

I kept the paint2preserve kits outside because I wanted people to hear and see only art inside the cube. The immersive experience was enhanced by the gentle sounds of birds chirping, creating an organic soundtrack to the visual feast of my landscape paintings. Each brushstroke captured the interplay of light and shadow, inviting viewers to lose themselves in the depths of the natural world.

As attendees walked around the cube, they were surrounded by a dialogue of colors and textures, their senses engaged in a way that transcended traditional viewing. The environment melded with the art, emphasizing the connection between nature and creativity.

By situating the paint2preserve kits outdoors, I encouraged spontaneous interaction and reflection. I wanted each person to feel a part of the environment while appreciating the artistic expressions I had created. The sounds of birds complemented the serene atmosphere, reminding everyone of the importance of conservation in our daily lives. This event was not just about viewing art; it was about experiencing it within the context of nature, fostering a deeper awareness of the beauty we strive to protect.

Thanks to WEM for offering me this structure and Merci Beaucoup to Galerie CAVA for lending me some portable walls. :)
