Mama Coyote

CA$60.00

This unique watercolor on paper embodies an abstract expressionist style characterized by loose brush strokes and layered paint. The subject of the piece reflects my engagement with urban coyotes, a key aspect of my recent conservation efforts in Edmonton.

From the winter of 2020 to 2023, I collaborated with a team at the University of Alberta to foster coexistence between people and urban coyotes. This initiative involved implementing strategies to deter coyotes from approaching human-populated areas while also educating residents on how to make their environments less inviting to wildlife. During this time, I often encountered a mother coyote with her pups near a local dog park. These close encounters were profound, each interaction marked by a silent understanding as we navigated our shared space with respect for one another.

This painting captures the spirit of those experiences and my connection to that mother coyote. As I painted, I was reminded of the delicate balance we can achieve when we open our hearts and minds to coexist with the natural world. The layers of color and movement in the artwork echo the emotions and insights I gained from that project, honoring the resilience and beauty of urban wildlife.
