“Calmer Cascade Falls” offers a quieter, more peaceful view of the same waterfall that inspired its chaotic counterpart. Painted during my second visit to the falls, the weather had shifted—there was less wind, and the air felt a little warmer. The landscape seemed to breathe more slowly, and the colors in the trees and the surrounding space appeared softer, more inviting, almost as though the world had taken a deep breath. The rush of water still cascaded down the falls, but the environment surrounding it was more still, giving me the opportunity to focus on the subtle details and warmer tones that filled the scene.

In this piece, I used a gentler approach to my technique, with less frantic brushstrokes. The watercolor washes created a harmonious atmosphere, blending the natural earth tones of the trees and rocks with the quiet energy of the falls. The pen work, while still present, was used more sparingly here, tracing the contours of the landscape in a way that emphasized the stillness and calmness of the environment. I focused on capturing the soft interplay between light and shadow in the trees, the calmness of the water, and the sense of peace that had taken over the scene.

Compared to the earlier, more chaotic painting of Cascade Falls, this piece reflects a different moment—a moment of calmness and quiet beauty in the same powerful location. It’s a celebration of the softer side of nature, where the landscape, although still powerful, allows for moments of rest and reflection.
